Industry Stakeholders Given the Chance to Provide Feedback on the UK Government’s White Paper on Gambling

This time in 2022, the entire gambling, betting, and racing sector of the UK was anxiously waiting to see the results of the overview of the country’s gambling market and then for the Government to unveil its plans for the implementation of the new gambling regulation aimed at putting the country’s gambling industry into the “digital age”.

Now, 12 months later, the wait continues. This time, the sector is waiting for the competent authorities to roll out the first consultations on the reforms that were proposed as part of the Government’s White Paper on gambling after the results of the probe were finally announced in April following a series of delays.

As Casino Guardian previously reported, the White Paper on gambling was originally expected to be published last summer. However, the last days of Boris Johnson as the Prime Minister caused havoc in the political life of the country, with deadlines coming and going. Eventually, the Administration of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak published the findings of the gambling industry review this spring. Since then, the industry has been waiting for the next move of British lawmakers.

Finally, a select committee of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has taken a major move forward to the future of stricter gambling regulations in the UK. The committee has officially invited industry stakeholders to share their opinion on the recently released White Paper on gambling and make recommendations about the next steps that need to be taken by the government. All interested parties are given the chance to do so, including gambling companies’ representatives, experts, and advocacy groups.

DCMS Select Committee Posts Three Important Questions to Gambling Industry Stakeholders

The DCMS select committee recognises how important public participation is when it comes to shaping the country’s gambling regulation, which is why it has launched a call for evidence from all interested parties, with industry stakeholders finally given the chance to share their views on the recommendations made by the Government’s White Paper on gambling. As previously reported by Casino Guardian, the White Paper has proposed significant reforms aimed at putting the UK’s gambling legislation into the 21st century by making the country’s laws relevant to the digital age by addressing emerging challenges and boosting customer protection measures.

All of this, however, requires public input that would help the select committee to take into consideration various aspects and perspectives of the issue before UK lawmakers made their final decision on the matter.

The latest call for evidence issued by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport features three questions hoping to receive on-point feedback from the sector. The first question asks participants to share which of the lawmakers’ proposals they agree with the most. The second query asks them to share their thoughts on any potential gaps in the reforms, while the third question of the committee asks the interested parties whether they believe that the implementation of the proposed measures will be successfully completed by the UK Government by the summer of 2024.

The data gathered by the consultation will be extremely important for local lawmakers because it will allow the DCMS select committee to form recommendations, taking into account the significant expertise and knowledge of the industry holders and using them in everyone’s favour. The collective input of feedback on the Government’s White Paper is set to contribute to a better understanding of the challenges that lie ahead and the opportunities that should be taken by the country’s lawmakers.
